Don't Invest In Equities!!!

Don't Invest In Equities!!!

“As it happens, retail investors are helping markets more by staying out than by investing in equities. So from a purely selfish point of view, we (current equity market participants) do not mind if you stay away from equities. Keep your money in low interest bearing savings accounts and this will help banks raise cheap funds.

Then, while you earn taxable 9% per year in fixed deposits and 4% in savings accounts, we will continue to buy HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Yes Bank and the like, which are up 3.5 times, 11 times and 5.9 times respectively since December 2008. Also, remember to pay all your EMI installments on time so that retail loans made by private banks do not get into trouble and we can continue do well owing their stocks.

Indian retail investors are more or less completely out of equities and would rather buy gold instead. So keep buying gold so that we can do better than you by owning stocks in Titan Industries and other jewellery companies. You should not care that at all that while the gold you bought is up 2.8 times in four years, the stock of Titan Industries, which sell gold to you is up 6.9 times during the same period. If Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had bought physical gold instead of shares in Titan when he did, he would not be a billionaire today.

In fact, go ahead and buy real estate, taking mortgages from HDFC and LIC Housing Finance. How else we would have made 2.8 times and 5.7 times in these stocks in five years? And when you do buy these apartment and houses, do insist on using the best construction material- cement, sanitary ware and so on. It is only because you do not buy equities and spend on real things that we could make 192% on ACC and 4.5 times on Hindustan Sanitaryware since 2008. A house is not done until it’s painted, so remember to keep a budget for decorative paints from Asian Paints (stock is up 4.8 times in four years)

Why should you invest in equities when you can buy insurance products? This world is interesting precisely because we think differently from each other- while you are happy buying insurance, we are happy owning shares in companies that sell you insurance. Thanks to you, shares in Bajaj Finserve are up 6 times in value and shares in Max India are up 2 times in the past four years.

Follow your heart and we will follow you. If you like going to malls and spending time there, please do some shopping as well- some of us own shares in Phoenix Mills which is up 2.7 times since 2008. In fact, it may be times for you to upgrade your car. Why buy equities when you can spend the same money on a new car or motorcycle? Let us do the more boring job of continuing to own stocks in Maruti and Bajaj Auto which are up 2.9 and 10.8 times respectively since 2008. Why not add your name to the waiting list for an Enfield this year while we own shares in its manufacturers, Eicher Motors which is up 12 times since 2008?

Life isn’t just about making and investing money; it’s important to enjoy life’s little pleasures. So go and watch a movie at the multiplex and munch some popcorn while you’re there. Meanwhile, we’ll buy shares in PVR (up 3 times in 4 years).

You’d rather spend time in front of the telly? We’ll still love you- shares in Zee Telefilms and Sun are up 3 and 3.5 times because of loyal viewers such as you. Call for Pizza delivery at home. Jubliant Foodworks, which owns Domino’s, is up 5.4 times since its IPO in 2010.

When you’re in mood to be sinfully self-indulgent, don’t make any resolutions to give up smoking or drinking. You may not want to invest in equities but spare a thought for investors in these stocks. Your actions so far have helped these investors make 3.8 times in ITC, 10.3 times in United Breweries and 2.2 times in United Spirits in 4 years but they still look for your continued patronage of these businesses.

We wish you a very happy and healthy 2013. If, God forbid, you have to visit a hospital, remember that as stake holders in Apollo Hospitals (stock up 3.8 times) we will be thanking you from the bottom of our collective hearts. And if you do fall sick in 2013, take comfort in the fact that you are helping investors in stock of companies such as Dr.Reddy’s (stock up 4 times) and Cipla (stock up 2.3 times).

We invite you over to our side in 2013 but still love you for choosing instead to be loyal customers of the businesses we own. Now it’s up to you to decide who you would rather be – part owners of Indian companies or just their loyal customers.”

Probablities of Event in Life

Its so Ironic ... !!!!!!
Probabilities of Occurrence
1. Raffle Coupon = 1 : 10000's ..... We still keep on trying it and are hopeful always
2. Retirement = 1 : 1.5 ..... Majority of us are going to live for 20 yrs with No Income.
3. Critical Illness = 1 : 2 or 3 ..... before age of 65 ... WHO survey
4. Death = 1:1 .... Everyone is going to DIE .... ( Its not question of IF but WHEN )
Majority of us do not PLAN for No. 2 / 3 / 4 .... which is closest or CERTAIN .... Can i ask you WHY ????

Irony of Financial Planning Industry

This happens with my Profession of Financial Planning almost every day.

Where is Humor ?

Can you find my humor?

Show searching action…you are searching for your humor…then you ask the audience a question….

Did you see my humor?

A humorous speech competition and I am still searching for my humor…oh God where can I find my humor?

I went to my wife to ask her if she has seen my humor.

-       She was giving tuition to her group of students in our building and she found one boy having a habit of stealing things.  She called the boy’s mother and told her about it.  The mother told my wife “Mam thanks, but please keep this info to yourself…but this habit of stealing has come from his father”

Respected Judges, Contest Chair and friends. Good Evening…

-       My wife also has a strict rule for all KID’s “No kid is allowed to use our TOILET”.  One day I asked the reason of her rule and she said “Children need to learn discipline and plan things in advance,” she replied, so either they come relieved or rush to their home if the urge comes in middle.

-       One day she saw a 7 year old Rohan very restless and she said, “Aha! You did not do the Pee 1 (big job) in advance? Rush home!”
Rohan jumped from the chair, rushed to the door without wearing sleepers headed to lift, as he has to go from 2nd to 19nd floor……But returned in 3 minutes and 22 seconds.
That’s a world record, Rohan.  This shows your dedication for your studies. My wife said
No Mam…. When I pressed the lift button I remembered my mother saying me not to disturb her in the afternoon sleep so I came back and did the Pee 1 on your door.

-       My Father was a Genius Looking to my Handwriting he pushed me to be a DOCTOR. So I was forced to take science in Grade 12. In Biology practical’s they asked me to dissect the frog and show its brain.  I completely ripped the frog but could not find one. When my teacher asked me to show the brain …. The Doctor in me said Sir, it seems that this frog does not have a BRAIN. Thanks to GOD I didn’t became a Medical Doctor. GOD saved so many lives.

-       Later on I became a Financial Doctor and have started a business in India due to which I have visiting India quite often.
One day the immigration officer was in a bad mood and he started interrogating me.
He looked in my passport, stared at me and asked Mr. Kadri? Hmm … I can see you are visiting India quite frequently …. What do you do for your living?”
I sell life Insurance and and it is very important to protect the family …. Blah … blah. I started delivering my speech and  “Persuading him with Power “ Project P9. Immediately he stamped my passport and said you Go … next please …
The power of my industry.

-       On one Saturday a friend of mine called me to go with him to a Police Station When i asked the reason he said ..... Yesterday i went to a Park with my 4 wives and 12 kids and what ... in the morning my maid said instead of 12 now they are 13.  Someone's kid while playing got into my Car and we didn't even notice till this morning.

Friends what I have realized Humour all around us and I was wasting my time searching for Humor.  It is part of our daily life.  We have to understand that Humour is everywhere and we have to find humor in everything that happens around us.

Reminds me of a poem…

Water Water .. everywhere ….. not a drop to drink.
Humour Humour everywhere …… laugh aloud and let your problem Shrink.

Last time I was doing  a project and found a a TIMER dozing off (action) . I asked the Shootmaster sitting next to him to wake him up but he in turn scolded me and said … “Sorry Mr. Kadri this is because of your speech he has gone to sleep so you come and do the honors”.

CONTEST Chair Please wake up.

It is a Matter of Choice on Protecting the Family

“It is absolutely a matter of Individuals CHOICE that how he/she would like the surviving family members to live a life after an unforeseen circumstances happen”.
After education individuals  set their own Standard of Living or Lifestyle and they keep striving hard either to maintain it or improve upon it.
In this jet age of speed and discoveries of modern medicine either the person die young or live too long (but with lots of medical issue).
Both the situation needs MONEY (unfortunately)…..to continue with a same standard of living.
Now the source of income to get this money could be either of the following :
1.     1. Spending from current savings.
2.     2. Housewife / husband starts a full time job.
3.     3. Asking help from friends / relatives.
4.     4. Asking from a Charity. ( Community Leaders)
5.     5. Protecting Life Styles. ( Insurance )
In this era, Joint family concept has become a History. People used to see the Joint families as a wonder of the world,. Nuclear family is a talk of the town. Parents and children’s – even 2 brothers  live in different houses / flats  even if they are living in the same city. This all has really affected the bonding and love among each other. Cost of living is such that even D.I.N.K (Double Income No Kid) family's live month on month with only pay check and a small amount to save.
So again we have to decide where would we like our family to get the money from ????????????
“It is absolutely a matter of Individuals CHOICE that how he/she would like the surviving family members to live a life after an unforeseen circumstances happen”.
We can only pray to GOD that may such day / situation does not come in any one’s life but the fact remains as a fact.
Everyone has to Die … Ratio is 1:1 and the medical statistics shows that Every 1 out of 3 will be suffering from Critical Illness before the age of 65 years …. Ratio 1:3.  Thanks to modern medical inventions which we still are unable to make out that is it a boon or curse???
We invest in lotteries / raffle coupons  (while shopping ) where the probability is 1 in 10000’s and pray to GOD for our chance.
But we do not think or work on the sure shot or closest probability.
We in the financial planning industry cannot protect lives neither can we save life – medically ( we are not doctors) but we try to protect lifestyles (standard of Living).
This implies that “Insurance is not because you will die …. But it is because they  (family) will live.”  Insurance money gives a deceased family  a platform to start living a comfortable life.
We do not have a single case history where the Widow has come to an Insurance industry and said that we don't need this money .... because either my Community or my father or father-in-law or brother is going to take care of our lifestyles and all our financial needs. In fact almost all of them prefers to stay independently with whatever little savings and the insurance money. We call it – KHUDDARI …. Kyu kisi par bojh banu ???
We know lots of families even in our community who have taken a benefit of Insurance money in the past and they will second my point of view.
TAWAKKALTU ‘ALALLAH is not a only an expression …… One has to have a Firm belief and Perfect Reliance on HIM. But HE is also expecting all of us to make an effort towards it.
HE has promised us to give FOOD but we have to EARN IT with honesty and dignity. This is what we have heard from our elders.
I also feel we have to see the practicality of the circumstances along with theoretical aspect of life and religion.
There is a saying " When we are in the desert ALLAH wants us to BELIEVE in HIM but also expect us to TIE the CAMEL" … because if he runs away we cannot blame HIM for our ignorance. HE has given us brain and an ability to THINK and this is the reason why we human beings are above all the living creatures of the world. ( i suppose )
You all will agree that there is a reason behind everything …. even the stranger meeting up with you has a reason behind it.
Whom do you think is introducing a Financial planner to you .... Many a times he ( financial planner) is coming to you as a stranger and talking to you about your Financial planning...... about the hard facts of your life (point to ponder). Don’t you think there is some GOOD reason behind it ????.
Yes …..It has its own reason.  GOD must have planned a meeting between 2 strangers. In fact there is a reason even why you are reading on this subject today.
I would like to share an incident which came across during my routine business call / meeting.

I met with a gentleman during my work and we were talking about financial planning. Since he was not open to the subject of an insurance we have decided not to talk about it and we have started discussing about various other investment planning options. During the discussion in his house I saw a beautiful mini fish aquarium with lots of fish in it. Out of curiosity I asked him that how does he take care of it when he goes for a month to his home town. He said that his friend comes home cleans the aquarium and feed the fish. So I just said to him that don’t you think it is an INSURANCE in its own way. I have complimented him that it is a great thought that you see to it that the fish does not die which shows you are a responsible man making an arrangement for it.

He got the point and understood what I mean. Today he is my client who is contributing to an insurance plan.

Yes ... I believe in GOD .... I have full faith in HIM ..... and we should also have a full FAITH in HIM only.
Planning for the unforeseen circumstances does not mean we are not believing in "GOD".
GOD has given us an ability to think what is Good and what is bad for us and adhere to our conviction about the existence of GOD and HIS miracles. It is only because of HIS wish we are either planning or not planning. Without HIS wish nothing can move …. I am sure everyone will agree to it.

Also we all agree money is not everything but unfortunately Money helps us to  buy everything which is important and necessary......forget about the luxury.

So again we have to decide where would we like our family to get the money from ????????????. Refer the previous paragraph for the 5 options.
“It is absolutely a matter of Individuals CHOICE that how he/she would like the surviving family members to live a life after an unforeseen circumstances happen.”

I would like to conclude with a due respect and apologies to all the readers who still have a firm belief that Protecting the Family is against the  RELIGION.  I respect their Opinion and will never ever try to Convince them.

It is purely my opinion.  Kindly use your own judgment and conviction to plan anything in context with the subject.

Thought on Insurance from different angle .... WHY ????

-Why are we leaving Unforeseen Circumstances to Chance......when the WHO reports confirms that by the year 2020 1:2 will be critically Ill.
-Why do we think that its going to be him/her and not going to be me who will face such Problems.
-Why we even after experiencing it personally in our family or even after hearing and seeing the real life case histories do not do anything in terms of Protecting our Financial health or Future.
- Why we believe that GOD is there to help us and protect us but still lock the door of our house or Car. But if asked to lock the the Safety of Financial Health by way of Insuring we give all responsibility to GOD. Yes of course,  he is there to help you but he has given us a brain to think. It is like if we work in an organisation ... the BIG Boss is there for our major decisions and issues ... but he expects you to take a certain decision and he delegates works. That is the reason why he gives you an Income and you are Employed.
Now try this ... start taking all - each and every decision to your BOSS and see ....... he will throw you out for just from work ..... too inefficient and dependent with work.
BOSS needs INDEPENDENT worker.
On the other Hand ....... GOD will not throw you out from his favorite LIST because he has promised to take care of you and will do it even better than what you could have done for yourself.
However the question still remains.
WHY do we depend on GOD ????
Why after still knowing understanding  and Experiencing we do not think about Planning for Future.
Why do we create a situation that GOD forbid if need arises we do not have an Insurance and then we are dependent on Children 's. They themselves have there own responsibilities of LIFE and then we BURDEN them more. I do understand that since it is Our Children's and also we have trained them to take care of us. Why we are dependent on them ??
Yes i understand that we have a GOOD  upbringing culturally they will be there to take care of US ... still ... my wuesting is

WHY ?????
Why  ????
WHY ????????????????????????????

Investments and Diabetics

A layman's comparison of Investments and Diabetics.

Diabetics : We have to keep a Continuous Watch on Sugar Level.
Investments : We have to keep Continuous Watch on Funds Performance.

Diabetics : When the Levels of Sugar is High we have to control it by stopping to Eat more Sugar.
Investments : When the returns are very high in the Market we have to Control our nerves to Invest more.      ( unless it is SIP )

Diabetics : When the Sugar Level is Down we have Eat More Sugar to bring it to a Normal Level.
Investments : When the Markets are Down we have To Invest more Money to get the Maximum Return.

Think about it.... as we normally do opposite to this and the Financial Health is in Bad Shape.

Just a Thought.

FINANCIAL PLANNING and CRICKET GAME

Financial Planning is like a Cricket Game.... Where we can SET our Own TARGETS and Chase them ... anyway we want.
Batting Side : We can take a 1 run , 2 run and 3 runs after hitting a Shot. However we also will get  loose delivery and we can hit a shot to boundary for 4 or 6.
Bowling Side : We can get wicket in the form of Clean Bowled, Catch Out, Stumped, Run Out or Hit Wicket. We can even stop Runs by doing a great fielding.

Setting up Targets in Financial Planning is very EASY ..... successfully Chasing them is not easy. It can be achieved by way of Discipline , Patience , Perseverance and ATTITUDE.

Good Investing Starts with Setting Financial Targets. Due to Medical Advancement ... it is more likely that we live longer and outlive our Savings.

EveryOne faces 2 Biggest and Visible Risk of Life....
1. Risk of Living Long. ( 16% Chance of Living up to 100 years.)
2. Risk of Living Short.
We have to address it soon .... soon means a.s.a.p.

Stay on the Pitch and Play every Ball - Toastmasters Script

STAY on the Pitch
Use Bat and Ball and Play a Cricket : Bat in my hand and someone from the club will be actually bowling. ( 15 secs  ) …
What do you think is going on here in a Toastmasters Meeting?
Is this a play ground or What ?????
I am sure many of you must be thinking on this lines …. Isn’t it???
This was a game of Cricket which  everyone sitting  this room must be following ?
TMOD , Fellow TM and Guests …… Good evening
It was 13th June 1989-  Finals of 20 over cricket match between Young star and  Shah bass  Team @ at a  Community level in Baroda. Young star team was batting first and within 5 over’s  they lost 4 wickets. At no. 6 a player by the name VIP walked in and slowly went to the non striking end.  Mr. Farid Batliwala a good cricketer of his time  – was an umpire and  he said some Golden words to  VIP and which has made a GREAT difference in the match and Life of VIP. Mr. Farid Batliwala said : Son … Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball ….. You will get a easy deliveries to hit shots and make runs. You have a tough obstacle in the form of an opposition team. They will stop you to score runs but you have to overcome that obstacle as well.  Your job is to have patience stay on the pitch and make runs.   VIP  just  listened to him and Young star  Scored 85 runs in 20 over’s loosing 9 wickets  out of which  VIP scored 57 runs not out. Although Young star  lost the match but VIP was declared  the man of the match….and VIP  learned an important lesson in his Life. Even though the match was lost VIP was a winner because till the last ball delivered he was only having one thought in his mind “Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball, You will get a easy deliveries to hit shots and make some runs”.
On 3rd Oct. 1996, VIP got an opportunity to come and try his luck in the job market of Dubai and make  his career.  Life was not easy for him . He went door to door of office trying to get a job but no luck. After struggling for many days  this young man got an opportunity to work as an insurance consultant. He cleared  his initial one to one Table topics session with the bosses and now asked to appear for his written test to check his English and Mathematics skills, but unfortunately he failed in both ?
He could not get that job but he didn’t lost his hope and remembered that Golden words of Mr. Farid Batliwala…. “Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball, You will get a easy deliveries to hit  shots and make some runs”.

Looking to his situation his friends and well wisher  suggested him to go back to his country.  VIP almost made up his mind to go back but before taking a final step to QUIT, he made a FINAL call to his Baba– Father. VIP was almost in Tears and said  Baba  it is very difficult job market here in Dubai, it has been almost 3 months no job , no money as well and  i am getting frustrated. I even got failed in some English and Mathematics test also.  Please advise what to do. VIP wanted his father to agree  to his decision to come back. He was looking for some re-affirmation.
But to his surprise his Baba said him the same thing  in different version… Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball, You will get a easy deliveries to hit  shots and make some run”. He also give him a courage and motivation that “Son… in the game of Long Jump the athlete has to go few steps behind to make a big jump and you have actually gone few steps back”. Don’t come before you attempt your jump completely. Don’t worry about the money I will send you more if you need it. Your mother and wife are here praying for your happiness and prosperity. Keep a strong belief in yourself and GOD.
These  sentences from his father worked like a magic. It helped  VIP to go out once again and start looking out for a job with full energy and enthusiasm. VIP was just looking for some support only.  GOD was also looking from up there and finally after a struggle of 5 months he got a job as a Consultant in an Insurance Brokerage Firm. This was only possible because reiterate the words in his mind  “Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball, You will get a easy deliveries to hit  shots and make some runs”.
After getting a job also it was not an easy going. Since it was a sales job VIP has to meet clients and  convince them to buy an insurance. As he was new in the industry with no experience It was getting difficult for him to establish that TRUST which is required in insurance industry.. Commuting was a big hurdle. Since he could not afford a Car Licence he applied for a motor cycle licence which he got in 1 months time. Back of his mind only one line “  Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball, You will get a easy deliveries to hit  shots and make some runs”.
With the help of some Loan amount VIP purchased a motorcycle and then things started working towards his Goal. He started meeting more people and  showing them how he and his services can be of a value to them. Fortune favors the brave one. Later on he purchased a Car. In April 2008 the same VIP who failed in Mathematics test became the First Certified Financial Planner of UAE. Also the same VIP, who failed in English Aptitude test joined Toastmasters in April 2010, doing his P10 today in the same room. He is also now conducting Professional Seminars in English all across the UAE. The only reason for his success is the advice which he got from his Umpire and Baba “  Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball, You will get a easy deliveries to hit  shots and make some runs”.
This VIP – TM Aadil Kadri would like to thank each and every TM and friends who have helped him reach to this stage of his life. A special thanks to  my Baba, Amma and Mr. Farid  Batliwala  who has helped this self made man reach where he is now.
Remember this golden advise : Don’t lose patience …. Stay on the Pitch, face every ball, You will get a easy deliveries to hit shots and make some runs”.

Once again starts playing a Cricket with a bat and ball and making an action as if he has hit a Sixer.

A Tribute to my 4th Language ENGLISH ... Humorous Speech

A Tribute  to my 4th language  - English

At the tender age of 5, I have visited an international Airport with my mother and she showed me Boeing 747. I could not resist and started shouting Boeing … Boeing….. Boeing … My mother said in ENGLISH … “be silent” .. so I paused for a moment and started shouting … Oeing…. Oeing….. Oeing
Good Evening Toastmasters / Friends and TMOD / Contest Chair.
I cannot understand , write or even talk English because English is my 4th language … and I only know 4 languages.
From Childhood I never understood Why T.O is pronounced as TO and G.O is pronounced in different mannerWhy B.U.T. is BUT but P.U.T is PUT and not PUT ( Pronounce as BUT).
I still do not understand the importance of Silent Alphabets in a word many English words…..i.e psychology, pneumonia etc. Take a spelling test and ask how to write Czechoslovakia and many English Natives will be clean bold.
The more I tried mastering the English language the more I got Humiliated in real life.
Once I was explaining a Financial Planning concept to a prospect in Hindi and just to impress I conclude the meeting in English… Go home have BRAIN WASHING session with your wife and then we will meet…. The prospect looked at me and corrected it is BRAIN STORMING and not BRAIN WASHING.
Recently I went to Switzerland and roaming around in the streets. We saw a beautiful DOG and To impress our group I asked in English … “What BRAND of DOG is this?”… Everyone laughed I could not understood why till my Boss corrected me by saying its “BREED of DOG”.
Meaning of Sentences can be changed if not Pronounced correctly.
Few years back a cousin visited my house from USA and he wanted to go for City tour. So he asked Aadil how about using a Taxi services for a City Tour ?
And to impress them I said in English, No Taxi service in our City is very EROTIC …. The actual word was ERRATIC.  ( not good )
I remember doing a ppt seminar on Financial Planning and the slide was to read  “Lets us all SHIFT from YOUTH to OLD AGE”. Without turning my back I changed the slide with pointer and there was a Roar of laughter and I could not understand unless I turned back and saw that I missed the letter F in SHIFT. Audience read it like ,,,, “Let us S.H.I.T ( Not to say ) from  YOUTH to OLD AGE”.  Importance of single letter !!!!
To improve my English I have attended Toastmasters meeting and which happens to be a competition meeting. I saw a Masters of Ceremony (MC) is addressed / called as Contest CHAIR, I asked fellow TM …why it is called as CONTEST CHAIR and NOT any other FURNITURE …. he said …may be because he remains SEATED while the speech is ON.
I thanked GOD that MC is not called as Contest BED or PILLOW. Otherwise he/she would be DOZING OFF while speech is ON
Finally, I joined TM club and just after 3 meetings I got a call from VP Education and he said you are a GRAMMARIAN in the next meeting and since the THEME of the meeting is HUMOUR you put a little bit of humor while performing a role of GRAMMARIAN.
I said him “Me becoming a Grammarian … is itself the biggest Humour of the day”.
I did perform the role to the best of my ability. But rather than finding a Grammatical  Mistakes  I have started making grammatical mistakes. Thanks that no one was there to correct my GRAMMER except General Evaluator.
15 guests run away and never registered or seen in our club again because of my GRAMMAR. The GE commented that in her 10 yrs of TM Experience not even a  single time she has seen a Humorous Grammarian. I don’t know whether it was a compliment or an EVALUATION with SANDWICH or OREO method.
Today I will come to know after the results.
I am sure one day TOASTMASTERS will help me quenching my thirst for improving my ENGLISH.
Can someone lock the door  till the time guest registers.

Critical Illness Insurance - Project 10 - CC Manual

Modern Medicine is changing the Game Plan of Life.

How many of you believe that Innovations in Modern medicine is a Boon ?? Good and How many of you believe that it is a Curse ??? Very Good.
The Innovations in Modern Medicine has played an important role in increasing Human Life Span from 45 years in 1900 to 75 years today.
However, this increase in life span has come with a BIG cost.

Are we all ready for it ?

TMOD Fellow TM and Guests, G.Evening

My name is Aadil Kadri. I am a Certified Financial Planner with 15 years of experience is going to shed some light on most important yet neglected area of life.

According to a recent survey by Cancer Research Institute, Diabetes is the fastest growing condition in the world and UAE has the second highest rate of Diabetics in the world. This condition is a major cause of many Critical illnesses.

Our chances of   being diagnosed with a Critical Illness are very high, thanks to our sedentary life style. The good news is there is a very high probability of our survival and the bad news is that survival  comes with a  BIG cost.

A study found that almost 75 percent of people who face a critical illness survive. Sadly, majority of them are forced to use their life savings to pay for medical costs.

Are we all ready for it?  Survey says that 9 out of 10 are not ready.

So what is the solution ??? Solution lies in Critical illness / Loss of Income Insurance which pays Lump sum to the insured upon diagnosis of specified illness.
Critical illness insurance protects our most precious asset which is “Our Ability to Earn ”.

Life Insurance hopefully will take care of the family in case of death. However, we have 80% of people losing their homes because of major illnesses and not due to death.

Medical insurance will hopefully take care of all the direct expenses of the hospitals and pharmacy bills. However, the lump sum money which comes upon the diagnosis of critical illness will help them to take care of liabilities and responsibilities of family.

In 2008, I met Mr. John who was not adequately covered so we have suggested him to take up Critical Illness Insurance for himself and his wife. Although he was reluctant, his wife was in favor and we did the paperwork. Just 9 quarters passed by I came to know that Mr. John was hospitalized due to a Critical illness: Malignant Brain Tumor. The whole world around him came to a Standstill.  Living expenses for his wife was a Big question mark. Mr. John got the claim amount which has helped the family to recoup from the shock.

Alternatively, I also know one Mr. Abdulla, physically fit young man of 38 years of age. Although he was covered by his company, he did not have any protection plan. Unfortunately his wife got detected with a MS - Multiple Schelorosis and due to which not only he had to resign from the job and leave the country but also lost his entire savings and his house for her treatment.

How many of us know such Mr. Abdulla around us ?

Friends,
-    Why do we even after hearing the stories, experiencing the trauma if it happens to the nearest in the family, understanding the statistics still do not act upon it.
-     Why do we procrastinate for no reason and finally we blame GOD for our fault.
-     Why do we create a situation that that leaves us dependent on our KIDS or relatives.
-     Why do we leave things to destiny.

Even the Recent reports of WHO confirms that statistically by 2020 one in two would be suffering
from critical Illness before the age of 65 years.

We have found that people are long on life & short on cash, they sacrifice health for wealth,  then try and use wealth to buy back health...when they are out of time and income-producing opportunity.

In case of any Critical illness, Doctors are there to help you medically , relatives are there to help you emotionally but who is going to help financially.

I strongly believe that “Yes .. Innovation  in Modern Medicine is a Boon as it gives us more time to live” however it can become a curse if we do not have adequate money to be get cured in case if we are struck with life threatening diseases.
Critical Illness Insurance is not expensive; however survival from a critical Illness is very Expensive. So it is better to have a Critical Illness Insurance and not need it rather than needing it and not having it.

“No one can predict the future so why not we protect it”.

Back Seat Driving - Project 9 - CC Manual

Will you please Shut up Mushi ? Just let me do what I am doing . This is how I screamed at my wife when she started poking her nose while I was preparing an Omlette for breakfast.  She continuously keeps bugging me to an extent that I shouted and said “ Do you think that I don’t know how to make an Omlette??
She said I know that you know how to make an Omlette, however this is exactly how I feel when you keep on talking while I am driving the Car.

TMOD, fellow TM and Guests… G.Evening.

How many of us sitting in this room drive a Car sitting behind the steering?
And how many of us drive the car Sitting on Side / Back Seat?

I am not happy to see this number and let me tell you Why ???

It was 16th of December 2011 Friday Morning, my sister called me that Aadil get ready … we all friends are going to Al Ain .. Jebel Hafeed. Although, I was reluctant to go because of Long driving, still got ready for the sake of my Family. We have decided to meet up at the 1st ADNOC petrol pump on Al Ain Highway.

I was driving my Honda Accord and in my car was my family – my 77 yrs young mother who sat on side next to me. 2 kids Basit and Saif and my only wife sitting in the back seat of my car. After we crossed Garhoud Bridge and entered Al Ain Highway I casually asked my Wife to drive the Car. Since she got a driving license few months back this drive would help her gaining confidence on driving on highway.

Normally she refuses to drive on Highways, however on that day she immediately agreed. We changed seats and now I am sitting exactly on the back side of a driver.

The car was zooming to the road speed limit and as usual I was ALSO controlling the car with my continues instructions to my wife …. Slow down … fast … overtake…. Come in the side lane … overtake etc.

We saw the exit to Petrol Pump and I asked my wife to slow down which she did but she slowed to a great extent and which was dangerous as well and I again shouted … Mushi drive little fast we are still few mts away. She started speeding …. 50 .. 60 …. 80 and for or a moment she must have forgotten that we have to take a right to Petrol Pump, but I didn’t forgot and and all of a sudden when I noticed the right to Petrol station and I shouted … Mushi …. Right … right … right. My wife turned the steering to right and could not control the car at that speed and she hit the pavement. Boom… Thanks to GOD that the car didn’t overturned or turned sideways.
To our luck there was a bush (kind of a tree) which helped the car to give a  cushion effect and it got stopped.
However because it hit the pavement with such a great speed that both the airbags came out. The car was full of smoke and dust and it smelled as if the car is going to explode. Except me everyone in the car started crying. I tried to gain all my strength and came out …. My mother was in a shock and although was in her senses was not talking. We could see blood coming out of my wife’s lips – maybe because of the airbag hit. She got jammed between the seat and steering. Slowly we all came out and checked each other. My mother started complaining that she is having a severe pain in the chest. We thank to GOD that at least both of my kids  were completely safe and were not injured. My mother and Wife were hospitalized for 3 hrs  in Al Ain Hospital.

Friends a question for all of you ?? Who do you think is the cause of Accident.
1.     Driver or 2. A Back seat Driver ???
I learnt a hard way that do not do Back seat driving – Its extremely dangerous.

I would like you all to repeat this right after me. From Now … No Backseat Driving … From Now … No Back seat Driving …. From Now No Back Seat Driving.

“Back seat Driving is a BOMB”

Debt Management - Project 8 - CC Manual

“Finances may not be the most romantic thing to Discuss, but ignoring them can create a huge problems later in the Relationships.” - Quote
President , TMOD , TM  and Guests Good Evening.
Todays presentation will let you all earn Chocolates  which you have to earn… so be with me and here we  go.
A chocolate Question …. What is the basic reason why we have come to UAE……
Earn Money… (Thanks for honest reply ) I got an answer … I am here for Global Exposure … Security … etc … etc…. But the bottom line is MONEY.
And if we do not take care / Secure this money it will GO…. More faster than this.
To do this what we need to do is properly manage the money which we earn by way of Salary or Profits. For that we need to do Money management … which will help us to achieve Financial Freedom which is the GOAL of each and every Individual.
The first rule for a Money Management is to have a Control on Income v/s Expenses and for that … one has to do Budgeting.
Budgeting   : One has to have a clear cut bifurcation of Fixed Expense and Variable Expense. Budget is the backbone of your Financial Life and those who have never written a Budget will be left out with a question at the end of a month. “ Where does it all Go ???”
A Chocalate Question : What are the 2 major fixed expense in this part of World. Rent and School Fees … Utility Bill , Grocery etc… One cannot do anything but to make an arrangement to take care of this.
Variable Expense …. Eating out in Restaurants/ Birthday Celebrations / Vacations – Local or International etc.
Cutting Expense : An example of Coffee. Try to make one at home rather than drinking at COSTA.
Ways to get in Debt.
-          A Chocolate Question : Which is the most prominent way to get in Debt…. Credit Card
-          Personal Loans / Buy one Get one free / Living beyond means / Flashy Lifestyle.
I would like you all to see this clipping which entices us to take live a Life full of Debt. ( 1 min )
Issues when in Debt.
-          Financial Issues / Legal Issues / Work issues / Family Issues / Work Issues /  Health Issues / and One will completely out of Peace of Mind. Infact the mind will be in Pieces.

Friends it is very important that each and every individual live a Debt Free Life as this not only gives us a Peace of Mind ……. it also helps us to live a life with Pride and honour.
To achieve Financial Freedom it is very important to do Money Management.
Oscar Wilde said once : When I was young I thought money is the most important thing in Life…. But when I grew old I realize … yes it is.
Over to you…. Toastmasters of the day.

Cost of a KID - Project 7 - CC Manual

A million Dirham Investment  !!!!!!!! Without even realizing it ???
Imagine having to spend a whopping million dirhams.
But …. Who could invest such an amount without some inkling of it happening ????
TMOD, Fellow members and Distinguished Guest – Good Evening.
Today in this room I can see 4 sets of individuals :
1.     Married with Older kids … Congratulations … you are our role model.
2.     Married with younger kids
3.     Married and planning to be parent
4.     Happy.
Today my speech is dedicated to all of us.
Don’t you think its so funny how creating a kid is FREE, yet the upkeep is anything but.
Children are priceless … however raising them is probably the most expensive thing  you ‘ll ever do.
Every new born child is a bundle of joy. You all agree … isn’t it ???
If it is your 1st , its one of life’s experience s, a true roller coaster of emotions. If its second , it’s a sibling and will be easier due to the experience with the first. ….The third is ……… well enough .. You can see where I am going.  I can see few smile on the face.
let me share a true incident. I  called an expat client of mine who happens to have 3 wife and 12 kids. I called him and he seems to be in tension. When I asked him he said … yesterday evening he went to a park and when he came back at 11:00 PM, we came to know that instead of 12 kids I got 13 kids and he didn’t know whose kids is this. So he has to sort out this mess.
Children are an EVENT.
The cost of bringing up a child in the UAE is possibly at an all-time high. According to recent calculation parents in the UAE will need to spend around Dh 1.2 million on an average to raise a child up to the age of 18.
Lets go into the breakup of this amount to understand this in more detail.
Education                                 :           Dhs 400000 – 33%
Childcare / Baby sitting            :           Dhs 300000 – 25%
Toys / Hobbies/ Leisure           :           Dhs 200000 – 12%
Clothing & Birthday Party          :           Dhs 150000 – 10%
Vacation / Pocket Money           :           Dhs 150000 – 10%

According to the survey conducted … the expenses of a husband wife family have a direct relationship with their income and standard of living.
       Income < USD 60000
                                    Expenses USD 8500 – USD 10000
       Income  between USD 60000 – USD 100000
Expenses USD 12000 – USD14000
       Income > USD 100000
                                    Expenses USD 20000 – USD 24000

Even the cost of raising a child in Canada  and UK is between $170,000 to $250,000  and £ 200,000 ( Dhs 1.2 million ) and that’s just to get them to the age of major.
We need not to be a rocket scientist to understand that this cost will keep on increasing due to inflation.
So now we’ve calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to age 18  is more than a million dirham and that does not even touch higher education.
However if you break it down it perhaps its not so bad. AED 63300 a year, AED 5300 a month, AED 1320 a week and AED 188 a day. Under 8 dirham’s a hour.
So if you’re thinking that the best Financial advise says “ Don’t have children if you want to be rich.”
No …. That’s absolutely wrong.
Then lets consider what you actually get for your money. You get someone to laugh yourself silly with no matter what the boss said or how your stock performed that day . A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites,, building castles. You get to witness the first step, first word, first day of school….and a long list to be cherished through out your life.
Above all you get another branch added to your family tree.
